Ring of Hope Boxing Moves in on Erie Boulevard

The Chamber and it’s Ambassadors along with local elected officials, staff, family, friends and even program participants celebrated the grand opening of the new boxing facility on Erie Boulevard in Schenectady.  The Chamber was honored to be part of celebrating a true asset to the local community.
This 501c3 organization has been serving young men and women in the Schenectady community for nearly ten years with the help and support of private donations and corporate sponsors and community grants.
Ten years ago Coach Vince Kittle and Jeff Christiana set out open a gym that would provide disadvantaged young men and women with an alternative to drug use, gang violence, hopelessness and despair. Founded on the principles that physical well-being, moral strength, emotional health, and a hopeful outlook can be nurtured simultaneously.  The mission remains the same today.
Programs include the Peaceful Warriors, a successful high school fitness and mentoring program in close partnership with Schenectady High School. Every school year high school students come to the gym three days a week and are coached in boxing and fitness. The real purpose of the program is to instill lifelong skills like goal setting, respect, responsibility and teamwork. The gym is a safe haven for the many youngsters who come through its doors.  In order to reach young people before they might be in trouble, the Ring of Hope has initiated programs for students in two of the districts middle schools.  The goal is to expand to all middle schools in the district.
In addition to youth programs the gym offers fitness and personal training to adults.  Membership continues to grow especially since moving to the new facility. Those memberships help to support the Ring of Hope youth programs.
The gym is open six days a week and personal training can be arranged at a convenient time.  Call at 518-377-1811 to make an appointment.
